One of the most iconic development companies, Concord Pacific, just closed a $185 million dollar deal on March 31st, 2016 to purchase the Molson Coors Brewery located at 1550 Burrard St & 1655 W 1st Ave, Vancouver, BC. Vice-president of Concord Pacific, Peter Webb, issued the following statement “We have finalized the purchase of the Molson Coors Burrard Location. Concord has agreed to lease back the existing property for Molson to continue brewery operations while a new brewery is being constructed.”
The development giant plans on demolishing the 7.4 acre site to make way for a mix-use residential neighbourhood, along with a knowledge-based work centre in order to attract technology firms. However, Concord Pacific faces a hurdle because the City of Vancouver announced that the 7.4 acre site is only zoned for industrial use and have no plans to rezone the site. But being the big development company Concord Pacific is, and with their ties and connections, I personally see them having it rezoned within a year and be ready for demolition/construction just after their two year lease back is complete with the Molson Canadian Brewery.
If the rezoning does go through I personally cannot wait to see the residential condominiums Concord Pacific will be adding to the Vancouver Real Estate market; based on its location these condos are going to feature some beautiful water and city views. We may even be lucky enough to get an early peak into these views with the help of virtual reality – more on that “here“. So what are your thoughts? Should the City of Vancouver change the zoning and allow Concord Pacific to build a mixed use high rise for commercial/residential homes? Email us your thoughts at Info@myhomesearch.com
